Galicia boasts one of Europe’s richest and most varied range of heraldic symbols. Yet to date no exhaustive and systematic study of this discipline has been carried out. The Proyecto Galicia series on heraldry brought together a select group of investigators to work on this ambitious project. Their major achievement is to be able to offer the general public for the first time ever in Galicia and Spain, an in-depth horizontal study into Galician Heraldry: its origins and development, external influences and its own creative elements; geographical areas; the periods in which certain forms were used; the evolution of armoury and the shapes of the coats of arms within their geographical and artistic context, etc.

The result is a series that relates specific aspects from each period, described decade by decade, reign by reign and century by century. Exhaustive research has allowed for the definition of a timeline that provides a detailed insight into the structure and composition of Galicia’s heraldry, genealogy and nobility.
