Asturian Artists

Asturian Artists was created with the intention of showing and disseminating the work of artists from the principality of asturias

The aim of the Artistas Asturianos Collection, the first stage of The Astur Project, is to promote the work of artists from the Principality of Asturias.

Seven of the ten volumes in this collection are dedicated to painting, and the remaining three to architecture and sculpture. It is the work of a team of leading specialists from the University of Oviedo and the rest of Spain who have carried out extensive research into the analysis and bibliographical study of more than 150 artists.

Life and Work of the main “Asturian” painters

Painters

These seven volumes analyze the life and work of a series of painters that we can name “Asturians”, though it is very difficult to establish a definitive canon on which they are.

We can find in these volumes artists such as Darío Regoyos (the only Spanish painter among the Europeans’ postimpresionists), that was born and spent part of his infancy in Ribadesella, though he moved to Madrid at a very early age. Also, as we are conscious that they should be more artists in this compilation, each volume includes a ” catalogue of absences “, which relieves, at least partly, the possible lacks of a collection. For the production of this work we have collaborated with some museums such as the Museoum of Fine arts of Asturias, the Prado Museum of Madrid or the Louvre of Paris.

The main sculptors of Asturias since the 18th century

scultors

These two volumes gather the work of the principal sculptors who were born and / or were employed at Asturias from the 18th century.

Across the different monographs, mailnly pioneering works on the topic, it is possible to know the evolution experienced by the sculpture in this geographical area. Undoubtedly the number and the work of the Asturian sculptors belonging to the different artistic stages here studied reaffirm that this publication was necessary.

Eighteen monographs by specialist researchers

Architects

These two volumes include eighteen monographs by different authors, all of them specialist invetigators in this matter and in each of the studied architects. Carmen Adams Fernández.

The volumes offer a large number of previously unpublished contributions, above all relating to artists who had not previously had a specific book dedicated to them. But it also contains the study of others, such as Juan Miguel de la Guardia and Julio Galán Carvajal, who, although they are better known, the analysis of their work has been completed and revised here, following a new thread.
