The pilgrimage is a deeply rooted religious phenomenon in medieval Europe. The one that was done to Rome, to the tomb of the prince of the apostles, returned to the Eternal City the concept of capitality of the Universe. The one in Jerusalem, difficult because of its remoteness and the intermittent dominance of Muslims, facilitated contact with the Holy Land, the physical scene of the life of Christ. Rosemary and palm trees added the pilgrimage par excellence in the west, which was the one made to Santiago in Galicia.
